Eimear Loughman's goal secures title for Clonoulty

West Tipp Bord na nOg

Our U12 Hurling championships were finally wrapped up in the division on Wednesday evening last in Dundrum where Clonoulty/Rossmore and Cashel KC fought out an absolute cracking Gleeson Concrete sponsored West Final replay with Clonoulty/Rossmore winning by three points to complete a tally of four West U12A titles in five years.

Right from the throw in both sides went in search of scores and with opposing centre backs Dillon Quirke (Clonoulty/Rossmore] and Colin Ryan (Cashel KC] in outstanding form in both defence and attack plenty scoring opportunities were being created.

Level on four occasions between Colin Ryan's opening Cashel point and Dillon Quirke's pointed free with time running out, Clonoulty/Rossmore enjoyed a one point lead at the break 0-6 to 0-5 but the decisive score came six minutes from the finish with a smashing goal by corner forward Eimear Loughman for a three point lead putting Clonoulty/Rossmore firmly in the driving seat.

Colin Ryan and Dillon Quirke again exchanged points in the closing two minutes but it was Clonoulty/Rossmore who held a three point advantage at the final whistle to finish deserving winners of the last U12 Hurling championship game to be played in West Tipp.

Starring for Clonoulty included goalkeeper Nicky Kerins, full back Dylan Kennedy, Dillon Quirke 0-3, Anthony Maher, Jack Ryan 0-1, Cathal Bourke 0-3, and Eimear Loughman 1-0.

For Cashel KC, Daniel Wade, Eoghan Connolly, Conn Bonnar 0-1, Colin Ryan 0-5, Patrick Fahy, Lee Barry and Alex Marshall 0-1 were all prominent throughout.

After the game a delighted Clonoulty/Rossmore captain Anthony Maher was presented with the winner's trophy by fellow clubman and Chairman of West Tipp Bord Na nOg, Joe Hammersley

In the U12 Hurling county Semi Finals played at the Ragg on Sunday last their was no joy for our West representatives with all having to settle for the runners up spot to North Tipp opposition.

In the U12A semi final Kilruane McDonaghs had a point to spare over Clonoulty/Rossmore , Newport proved too good for Eire Og in U12B while Galtee Rvs went down by three points after extra time to Templederry Kenyons in the U12C semi final.

Congratulations to Tipperary’s U16 Hurlers who overwhelmed Galway in last Sunday’s All Ireland U16 Hurling Final at Semple Stadium.

On the way to the final they drew with Limerick, easily disposed of Antrim and outclassed Offaly in the semi final.
