Former Tipp boss Liam Sheedy to promote Tyrone hurling

All Ireland winning Tipperary manager Liam Sheedy is bringing his hurling expertise to Tyrone in a new GAA initiative.

All Ireland winning Tipperary manager Liam Sheedy is bringing his hurling expertise to Tyrone in a new GAA initiative.

Former Tipperary manager Liam Sheedy has a new role - to grow hurling in Tyrone. Former coach Eamonn O’Shea has a similar role in Donegal.

The two men who guided Tipperary to All Ireland glory in 2010 are now key players in a new initiative to development hurling in weaker counties.

The plan was unveiled on Thurdsay by incoming GAA president Liam O’Neill.

Sheedy and O’Shea will be mentors in a support team that will collaborate with county boards and provide guidance to team managers and coaches involved with underage and adult county teams to maximise participation and optimise performance.

The National Hurling Development Plan’s main objective is to develop the skills and standard of hurling across the country.

It has identified counties in Ulster and Connacht where hurling development is needed.

Sports Science supports will also be provided to six counties - Antrim, Down, Carlow, Laois, Westmeath and Kerry
