This South Senior Hurling tie played in Monroe on Saturday last having been washed out on Friday night saw Ballingarry very much up for the game with outstanding displays from goalie James Logue,Ian Ivors, Philip Ivors, Donal Shelley, Seanie Cahill, Ger Fennelly and Adrian Cleere with Killenaule’s John O’Dwyer and Niall Bergin the best of the rest,

Niall Bergin had a point from play for Killenaule in the 2nd minute with John O’Dwyer adding a point from a free in the 4th minute to go two up. Ballingarry took hold of the game from the 5th to the 15th minute, scoring seven points without reply, from play by Donal Shelley, a well taken free from 60m out by Seanie Cahill, Adrian Cleere from near the sideline, a great point from the middle of the field by Seanie Cahil, a free all of 90m by Ian Ivors, another from Jack Fennelly and the last from Eamon Cahill on the run through the centre.

Kieran Bergin hit back for Killenaule but Ballingarry were in their stride and resumed their scoring with a puck out by James Logue to Adrian Cleere who pointed from centre field. Within a minute Eamon Tuohy added another point from play with Eamon Cahill pouncing on a mistake in the Killenaule defence to add a point in the 21st minute with Philip Ivors getting his first point of the game in the 22nd minute, winning possession with every ball that came his way , Ballingarry added a goal after a great passing movement between Ger Fennelly and Eamon Cahill who struck a great shot past Gerry Kennedy to leave the score at the 23rd minute Ballingarry 1-11 Killenaule 0-3.

John O’Dwyer scored a 65 in the 24th minute with Philip Ivors almost immediately adding a point from play. In the 26th and 27th minutes Killenaule’s John O’Dwyer pointed two frees from over 80m out only to see Ballingarry claw one back when minor Ger Fennelly scored an excellent opportunist point from play.

John O’Dwyer and Dickie Norton exchanged points to leave the half time score Ballingarry 1-14 Killenaule 0-7.

Killenaules were first off the mark within a minute with John O Dwyer point. Ballingarry struck back in the 33rd minute with a point from a free by Seanie Cahill and within a minute Philip Ivors added another from 40m out from play. Killenaule made a few positional switches and came back into the game with points from play from Peter Kennedy, Michael Doyle, Kieran Bergin and a pointed free 60m out by John O’Dwyer to leave the score Ballingarry 1-16 Killenaule 0-12. Seanie Cahill added a point.

There was an exchange of points from Seanie Cahill and John O’Dwyer and in the 50th minute Philip Ivors stretched the lead with a well taken point to go nine points ahead.

Then a fracas occurred with the referee showing four red cards, two to each side, and all four players now miss the semi Final stages of the Championship. In the cloisng stages Ballingarry had three points from Adrian Cleere and two from Philip Ivors with Cathal Bergin scoring for Killenaule.

Ballingarry deserve full marks for their display with Killenaule having to address their game plan if they are to advance in the semi final
