Marlfield Hurling Club
Our junior hurlers had a welcome win over neighbours Clerihan in our latest South championship tie played in Goatenbridge on Saturday night last, 2-13 to 1-7. Played in ideal conditions, the game was a much closer contest than the scoreline might suggest. Marlfield led almost from the start but the tenacious Clerihan men battled all the way, being within a few points of us for three quarters of the game. For assorted reasons we fielded minus the services of four of our best, Shamie Ryan, Peter Joyce, Kevin Dahill and Liam O’Donoghue, but we forged out a win and so we are still in the championship.
A very welcome aspect of the night was the support we had from Marlfield people who came to cheer the lads along and we are glad their journey to this lovely venue was worthwhile, particularly on such a rare sunny summer’s evening.
Public Use Of Lawn
In recent weeks we have noticed a sharp increase in the use of the Lawn by various parties who do not hold any form of membership in our club. We would ask these people to please note that they may not use the facility unless they are at least associate members, or social members as this category is sometimes known. This costs a mere €20 for those over 21, €10 for under 21 or €30 for a family. This entitles them to use of the grounds for twelve months for walking, jogging, a puck-around or even to just play ball with their kids. It costs us a hefty sum to maintain the grounds each year. We are a small club and all our finances come from the pockets of our own members or from public contributions of one form or another. In these circumstances we feel that these fees are very reasonable.
