New manager for Tipp lady footballers
Tipperary lady intermediate footballers were defeated by Kerry in their opening league encounter in Cahir on Sunday.
The new manager of the team is Sean O’Donovan who took on the role two weeks ago after being asked to do the job by the new Ladies Football County Board Chairman Tommy Campbell.
Tipp played in the senior ranks last year and are now in the intermediate division and will play Kerry, Cavan, Fermanagh, Mayo, Galway, Clare and Waterford in the league prior to the start of the championship.
“I am excited about the opportunity, I believe if the work is put in by everybody involved that we can repeat the success of the 2008 All-Ireland in a few years time,” said Sean who is a former Chairman and Treasurer of Moyle Rovers Ladies Football Club.
The new manager said the experience he received over the last six years being involved with ladies football in Moyle Rovers will help him carry out his duties.
“It is a marvellous opportunity for me, an opportunity that would not have come my way but for Moyle Rovers and it was great to be part of a very strong team that generated so much success in the last few years,” said Sean .
He became involved in ladies football in the club as a result of great encouragement from the late Joe McGrath who laid the foundations for the success of the ladies football at the club.
Sean’s backroom team include coach Eamon Ryan (Ardfinnan), Kay Lyons,administration, Una O’Brien, selector, Elaine Powell, physio.
