Top South Tipperary hurling action this weekend

This weekend two vital South Tipperary senior hurling championship games top the bill and the action will commence at Fethard on Friday evening at 7-30 p.m. with the clash of those great rivals Ballingarry and Killenaule.

This game needs little introduction other than to state that it should prove another worthwhile chapter in the great rivalry that traditionally exists between these teams.

Killenaule are back to their best this year and will be favoured to come out on top but their rivals relish a battle and it looks a contest not to be missed.

Clonmel on Saturday evening should house a tidy attendance for what promises to be a most interesting double bill. Heading the attractions at 7-30 will be the senior hurling championship clash between Mullinahone and Davins and this will be preceded at 6-15 p.m. by the Martins Fruit & Veg Intermediate hurling clash between Ballybacon-Grange and Grangemockler/Ballyneale.

Mullinahone will be expected to continue on their winning way in the senior tie but Davins will be stronger on this occasion than they have been in recent outings and it is a do or die game for them.

A full round of games in the John Quirke Jewellers junior hurling championship should produce lots of action on Sunday at high noon. Newcastle and Skeheenarinky look certain to deliver another stirring clash in Clogheen whilst in Monroe St. Patricks and Kilsheelan/Kilcash will renew rivalry in a game that should attract a big following.

Davins face a difficult task against Ballylooby/Castlegrace in Ned Hall Park whilst in Kilsheelan, Clonmel Og will have high hopes of lowering the Swan colours. Last but by no means least Moyle Rovers and Ballingarry will do battle in Fethard.

Three opening games in the Europlan Junior hurling (B) championship are spread over this Wednesday and Thursday evenings and a complete round of the Mulcahy Construction Junior (B) football championship is scheduled for 8 p.m. on Wednesday of next week.

In intermediate hurling in addition to the Ballybacon-Grange v Grangemockler/Ballyneale clash there are interesting ties scheduled for Sunday at 2 p.m. between holders St. Marys and Cahir in Goatenbridge and Fr. Sheehys and Fethard in Cahir.
