Tipperary’s footballing genius Declan Browne will feature in the final episode of the new series of Laochra Gael on June 7 at 22.00 on TG4 with a repeat on Sunday June 10 at 21.00 on TG4.

The Moyle Rovers man was an inspirational force in Tipperary football from 1996 to 2007 winning Tipperary’s first ever football All Star and captaining the Premier county to the Tommy Murphy cup in 2005.

Declan talks openly about life in the Blue and Gold jersey and the programme also includes interviews with Mick O’Dwyer, Brendan Cummins and Dara Ó Cinnéide.

Declan joined the Tipperary senior football team in 1996 and was the outstanding forward for the county for the next decade. Unfortunately with the twin powers of Kerry and Cork in Munster it was always going to be a struggle for the other counties like Tipperary to make the breakthrough.

After dazzling displays by Declan in the 1998 Munster Championship Tipperary took on Kerry in the Munster Final. The Kingdom won out on the day but Declan collected his and Tipperary football’s first All Star later that year. His talent hadn’t gone unnoticed and rumours circulated that Declan would move to a county where he would have a chance of success but he always remained loyal to Tipperary and his club Moyle Rovers.

The Premier men would get another shot at an elusive Munster title in 2002 against Cork and Declan’s inspirational first half performance on the day was a joy to behold for lovers of the game. Unfortunately the teams finished in deadlock and Cork easily won the replay.

Declan would put on another sparkling performance against Donegal in the 2003 football Qualifiers where he showed the nation his talents in Croke Park earning him a second All Star Award.

Back in Croke Park again in 2005 Declan was finally rewarded for his dedication to the blue and gold when he captained Tipperary to victory in the Tommy Murphy Cup and had the honour of lifting the cup in Croke Park on behalf of his beloved county.
