West hurling semi place is booked for King Cormac’s under 21s team

County Minor A
Semi Final

Cashel KC 1-06
St. Mary’s 3-12

Cashel’s assault on county honours came unstuck in Drombane last Saturday. With pitch conditions terrible and some players carrying niggling injuries this game was always going to a difficult assignment.

In an opening half in which both teams shooting left a lot to be desired a strong rally approaching half time with points from James Cummins and Adrian O’Dwyer kept Cashel very much in it the game trailing 1-05 to 0-4. The second half again was tense with both sides guilty of wasting opportunities. Gradually St. Mary’s began to find their range and leading 1-8 to 0-5 the game was slipping away. Substitute Ramie O’Leary showed determination and grabbed a goal that ignited Cashel’s effort but they could not build on this score. Instead Mary’s continued to pick off the scores and two goals within minutes took its toll on Cashels brave challenge. In the end there can be no complaints Cashel to their credit were right in the game midway through the second half but St. Mary’s strength in attack saw them through.

Overall the West Final success was outstanding and will stand out in the memories for many a year. Should our young teams continue to contest and win divisional titles then the experiences of losing at county stages will change for the better sooner rather than later. With many of this minor team the backbone of our U21 side there is still plenty of hurling to be done in 2012, maybe even 2013! A huge well done to the players and mentors who have been on the go almost all year for their outstanding commitment.

West U21 A Hurling

Cashel KC 3-16 Kickhams 0-14

Our U21s did what they had to do in disposing of Kickhams and in doing so booking a Semi Final place against strongly fancied Arravale Rovers next weekend. Cashel’s win was merited after a hard working and confident Cashel display was far too good for Kickhams. While not getting carried away there is certainly plenty of room for improvement with Kickhams more than matching Cashel in the opening half and many questions were asked of Cashel’s defence. But a commanding second half performance saw the lads pull clear and run out deserving winners. Cashel had a fine team effort and another one next weekend will be required if we are to progress to the final, many thanks to our loyal supporters who braved the murky conditions to support the team we hope you will be out again in force next weekend in Bansha.

Cashel: Owen Quirke, Paddy Morrissey, Kevin O’ Leary, Cathal Minogue, Alan Cummins, Michael K O’Dwyer, Niall Fitzgerald (1-0), Jonathan Grogan (1-8), Seamus Reade, Gearoid Slattery, Simon Delaney (0-4), Eoghan Ryan, Robert Anglim (1-2), Daniel Bowes, Brian Laffan (0-2). Subs used: Thomas Grogan for Niall Fitzgerald, Niall Fitzgerald for Daniel Bowes.
