Fine turn our for rugby Blitz in Rockwell
A massive "scrum" at Rockwell Rugby Blitz.
A Munster U10 rugby blitz took place at the rugby pitches in Rockwell College on Saturday 21st April. 20 teams from all over Munster arrived from 10 am onwards, ready to kick off at 11.30am. They came from as far away as Bantry,Killorglin, Killarney Castleisland, Abbeyfeale. Clubs from Cork and Limerick also made the journey and the local clubs were well represented by Clanwilliam,Fethard, Clonmel, Cashel and Kilfeacle.
Five pitches were used with four clubs playing on each pitch, each team played 3 matches over the course of the morning. The sound of the hooter signaled the start of each game and the standard was very high with some great matches taking place. Transition year students from Rockwell College refereed the games having completed a refereeing course earlier in the week with Munster Referee John Lacey.
As the blitz finished shortly after 1 o’clock, all the teams gathered in front of the tower for one group photograph taking in over 300 kids who took part. Later, the school provided food for all players and parents who attended in the school senior ref.
