One week after reaching the quarter finals of the FAI Junior Cup, Clonmel Celtic repeated the feat in the Munster Junior Cup with a shock 1-0 win over Limerick’s Pike Rovers.

Pike travelled to Clonmel as FAI Junior Cup holders but Celtic proved no respecters of reputations as they advance to the last eight with a Dwayne Burns winning goal.

Celtic fully deserved their win and made one of the best junior soccer teams in Ireland look quite ordinary. It was a victory for effort, organisation and skill. This group of lads have once again proved to the pundits that they are worthy standard-bearers for the TSDL in these national and provincial cups and are determined to continue their journey right up until the end, whenever that will be.

The breakthrough after 61 minutes. Pike ‘keeper Gary Neville, under pressure from Stephen Ryan, fumbled a long free-kick from goalie Kieran Kendrick and Dwayne Burns took full advantage to nod home from close range.

The victory will probably make their trip to play Pike Rovers in Limerick in the FAI Cup in two weeks time all the harder, but that’s another day’s work.
