Clonmel Celtic made history last weekend when they reached the FAI Junior Cup quarter finals for the first time with victory over Dublin side Trinity Corinthians. They are the only Tipperary side in the last eight.

Now they face an even bigger challenge when they take on Limerick side Pike Rovers in the Munster Junior Cup at their by-pass venue on Sunday for a place in the last eight of the premier provincial cup competition.

Pike Rovers are the FAI Junior Cup holders, having beaten Tipp town side St Michael’s in last year’s final, and they will bring a huge reputation with them to Clonmel. They reached the quarter finals of this year’s event last weekend with a 6-0 win.

But Celtic have taken over as the top cup side in Tipperary this season and will be keen to move out of the shadow of St Michael’s and neighbours Clonmel Town and take a decisive step towards a major honour.

Kick off is at 2.30 and the game will be decided on the day with extra time and penalties if needed.
