Tipperary strike gold at Community Games finals

There was great jubilation among the Tipperary competitors at the Munster Finals of the HSE Community Games summer programme of events in the University of Limerick on Saturday. The teams from Tipperary competed with pride and distinction. They all rewarded their supporters with exciting matches and a fun filled afternoon of sport.

Tipp teams also held their own on the podium winning gold medals in five events and silver in three.

Gold medals which earned the teams the all important ticket to contest the National Finals in Athlone in August were won by the following:-

U12 Skittles team from Ballingarry who defended their crown with a fine win over Carrigtwohill in the semi final, they went on to defeat Ballybrowne/Clarina, Limerick by 348 to 239 points in the final and brought home the HSE Munster Community Games Shield for the second year in succession. Team members were Lauren Cleary, Louise Lawlor, Daniel Lyons (Capt) A.J. Dunne, Aaron Dunne, Stephen Cleary. Manager Jesse O’Donovan. This team was well fancied to complete the double and did not let their supporters down.

U16 Skittles team from St Peter & Paul’s, Clonmel also defeated Ballybrowne/Clarina, Limerick 357 points to 266 in their final after an impressive victory over Clare in the semi final to the delight of managers Mary Walsh and Sandra Thomas. Team consisted of:

Samantha O’Dwyer, Lorraine Williams, Annie Coffey, Ben Walsh, Michael Keating.

This team has also competed on previous occasions in Athlone, we look forward to seeing them in action again.

U13 Hardcourt Tennis team from Cashel-Rosegreen got off to a good start in the semi final against Ballinlough, Co. Cork. Caoimhe Perdue and Katie Morrissey won the girls

Doubles 2.0. Sophie Burke and Jamie O’Keeffe won the mixed doubles 2-1 and Michael O’Meara and Eoin Connolly won the boys doubles 2-0. This very talented team then defeated Ennis by 3 - Love in the final.

U12 Girls Soccer team from Roscrea defeated Bruff, Co Limerick in an amazing final which resulted in a draw at full time, still a draw after extra time and was eventually won by 3-2 on penalties.

U14 Camogie team from Nenagh who defeated Cashel-Rosegreen in the county final gave another polished performance beating both Sixmilebridge in the semi final and Enniskeane, Cork in the final with ease.
