Winning start to year for Tipp hurlers
Tipperary 2-24 Limerick IT 1-16
Tipperary qualified for the semi-finals of the Waterford Crystal Senior Hurling tournament when they beat Limerick Institute of Technology by 2-24 to 1-16 at Dolla yesterday.
Tipp recovered from a slow start to lead by 1-15 to 1-8 at half time, the goal coming from John O’Neill. They were always in control of the second half and the outcome was never in doubt after substitute Timmy Hammersley scored the second goal 7 minutes from the end.
Their top scorer was Pa Bourke, who finished with 0-13, 12 points of which came from frees.
Tipp now meet University of Limerick in the quarter-final on Sunday, February 5th.
