The High School and Presentation Secondary School in Clonmel have presented a musical every year for the past 37 years and their most recent offering towards the end of last year was Kiss Me Kate.

Staged at the White Memorial Theatre, this joint schools project was another excellent production, as the students performed to their usual high standards.

A large cast of 70 talented teenagers took to the stage for the show, with music and lyrics by Cole Porter. The story involves the production of a musical version of William Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew and the conflict on and off-stage between Fred Graham (performed excellently by Shane O’Sullivan), the show’s director, producer and star; and the leading lady, his ex-wife Lilli Vanessi (Ellie Mackey), whose lead role kept the audience enthralled.

A secondary romance concerned Lois Lane (played by Katy Mullins), the actress playing Bianca, and her gambler boyfriend Bill (David Walsh), who ran into trouble with some gangsters (Michael Tobin and Kenny Liew).

The show was directed and produced by Jennifer Williams, with musical direction from Siobhan Alley and Olga Gannon.

Ms Williams was delighted with the response from the students. She said “the boys and girls were a very dedicated group, they worked very hard and produced a show that was very energetic and entertaining”.

The show is always eagerly awaited on the local entertainment calendar and another top production is expected towards the end of the year.
