Tipperary’s Sive Kearney and her horse Rob Roy took on the elite of the Irish dressage world at the National Dressage Championships at Cavan Equestrian Centre last weekend.

Enjoying her new partnership with the massive 17.3hh Hanoverian gelding Rob Roy, the 14-year-old was the youngest competitor by several years.

They went into what proved to be an unassailable lead in their first test and maintained their composure throughout the weekend to win their first national title together. At this advanced level, all rider categorisation is removed so it is an equal playing field with the professional adults.

Sive is feeling proud after attaining international qualifications again, having previously represented Ireland on her pony stallion in 2017 at the European Pony Championships in Hungary.

The second year Rockwell College student plans to travel to France later this year to compete within her age category to gain further experience and secure European qualification scores for 2019.

Clogheen’s Sive is trained by Sue Smallman near Kilcoran in Cahir and has been on the Irish dressage high performance squad for the last three years.
