Rehearsals are well underway down at Clonmelâ€™s White Memorial Theatre where St. Maryâ€™s Choral Society is preparing to present the magical musical and family favourite The Wizard of Oz from Friday, 23rd November to Saturday, 1st December.
This will be the first time that The Wizard of Oz has been staged by the Clonmel society and the production is being directed by Diarmuid Vaughan. Musical Director is Danny Carroll, Choreography is by the societyâ€™s AIMS award-winning team of Gillian Hewitt-Fitzgerald and Majella Louise Fitzgerald, the Childrenâ€™s Co-ordinator is Margaret Oâ€™Sullivan and Diarmuid Vaughan will also design the set.
Auditions were held recently for the many parts in this wonderful musical and the line-up of principals is as follows: Ciara Laste, a 14 year-old secondary school student in the Presentation Secondary School in Clonmel has been selected to play the lead role of Dorothy.
Society Chairman George Barry will play The Wizard. Michelle Moloney, who delighted audiences with her performance as Svetlana in last seasonâ€™s Chess will play Glinda, the Good Witch. Michelle Smith, who joined the society for Chess will make her debut in the front line as Miss Gulch/The Wicked Witch of the West.
Kevin Fahey makes a welcome return to the society in the role of The Scarecrow, David Hughes will play The Tin Man and Sheena Fennessy, no stranger to Clonmel audiences will play the Scarecrow. Supporting roles are being played by Noel Cairns, Grainne Vaughan and a host of St. Maryâ€™s Choral Society regulars, together with a junior cast of 40 children selected following recent auditions.
