Laura Hobson, a 2013 graduate of the Creative Multimedia degree at LIT Clonmel has won 1st prize in the New Media category at the Institute of Designers of Ireland (IDI) Graduate Awards held recently in Limerick.
The IDI is the professional body representing designers in Ireland and the highly regarded Graduate Awards showcase the work of Irish students, both north and south, who have recently graduated from a range of design disciplines. Laura graduated earlier this year and is now employed as a designer by Firecrest Clinical in Limerick working on the design of multimedia products and services for the pharmaceutical industry.
The winning project titled “Cillian’s Kite†is an interactive storybook app developed for mobile and tablet
devices. Laura developed the app for her final year project on the Creative Multimedia degree. The international judging panel for the IDI Graduate Awards noted that “The project demonstrated a holistic approach to the design process with particular strengths in the backend coding and its integration across a variety of devices. The student has independently produced a body of work which would normally call for a collaborative effort.â€
James Greenslade, Head of Department of Design in LSAD stated at the IDI award ceremony that “This award is further recognition of the strength of the graduates from the LSAD Clonmel programmes. It also highlights the opportunities for graduates in the growing Digital Economy, particularly for those with skills in the areas of digital media, design and creative technology, all of which are core elements taught as part of the programmes offered by LSAD Clonmelâ€.
In 2012, the degree programmes in Creative Multimedia and Digital Animation Production running at LIT Clonmel officially became part of the prestigious Limerick School of Art and Design (LSAD). Bringing this suite of programmes at Clonmel under the LSAD brand has greatly enhanced these offerings. There has also been a significant investment in the LIT Clonmel campus this year with the recent development of a new Creative Media studio and Media Lab. In addition, the Creative Multimedia degree in Clonmel was one of a number of courses in LIT that recently achieved a 100% employment rate for graduates according to the 2012 LIT Graduate survey. This highlights the strong employment opportunities in the target sectors for Creative Multimedia graduates.
