Patrick and Bridie (nee Byrne) Condon lived all their married lives at the foot of Slievenamon, in Kylotlea Mullinahone. They had seven offspring Matthew, Patrick (Paugy), John, Gretta, Nancy, Bridget and Richard (Dick).
There are three surviving members today Gretta who is in nursing home, Nancy who lives Co Laois, and Dick lives in Cork.
The family grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren and extended family came together for a reunion on Sunday, August 5. Coming from all parts of the country including Cork, Dublin, Cavan, Kildare, Laois, Limerick, Galway, Wexford, Tipperary and more!
It started with a mass in Mullinahone church at 9.30am in memory of all the deceased members of the Condon family and then a visit to the family grave. Afterwards the family members met for tea and coffee. Then they, those who are able, went for a walk on Slievenamon, meeting at the ‘Wishing Seat.’
When everyone had finished the climb they are met up again in Shangarry for food and beverages and maybe a drink or two.
This is the first time they all met up and it was a very exciting and emotional reunion. The extended family now hope it will become an annual meeting and maybe raise money for some charities.
