Ballybrado, the longest established organic brand in Ireland, celebrates 30 years of organic food and farming this year.
Having started at a time when the term organic was hardly known and “all food was good†Ballybrado soon became the centre for organic agriculture during its pioneer years in the 80s and 90s.
When BSE hit the headlines it marked the beginning of a food and health awareness among Irish consumers which has been growing ever since.
Now the second generation has become involved in shaping the future at Ballybrado.
Julia Finke, who developed a passion for organic food during years of self-sufficiency at Ballybrado, is now a qualified chef having worked in top restaurants and hotels in Ireland and abroad. Today Julia is in charge for product development at Ballybrado.
To mark 30 years of organic food from Ballybrado she has developed an online baking course in order to help interested “bakers to be†on their way.
Julia said: “I hope that I can ignite the joy of food, a love which will stay with you for the rest of your lifeâ€.
The eight session course, covering breads, cakes, tarts, pizza and puddings, sweet and savoury scones and much more, starts on May 17, on www.ballybrado.com
