The next meeting of the Chamber of Commerce will be on Wednesday, June 14, at the Brian Boru, tea coffee and sandwiches from 6pm, meeting begins at 6:30pm.
Chamber president Sean Laffey said “if any members would like to discuss any particular matter please feel free to send in your item for addition to the agenda by Wednesday 7th of June, preferably by email to email@example.com. The agenda will be circulated from June 8 onwards to members. New members may join by contacting Chamber treasurer John Lacy on 062 64651, note we now have a direct standing order option to spread the cost of membership.
Items to be discussed at the next meeting include:
Friar Street Development
The town council have an ambitious proposal in draft form, that if successful, will result in the removal of overhead power lines in Friar Street. Sean commented: “This has implications for day to day business in Friar Street as work to take power underground will cause some disruption to trading. It also impacts on the Chamber’s plans for Christmas lighting over the next two years as it would be foolish to design a Christmas Lighting plan for Friar street without knowing the final geography of the streetscape.”
Other items that are to be discussed include:
Sean told us that “For our next meeting we are assured by AK Lighting that they will have a costed plan for the 2012 Christmas Lights and a way forward to improve on the lights over the next four years.”
Destination Cashel is an excellent new tourism guide from Chamber members Lion Print, samples will be available on the night and discount bulk purchases are possible, this is very relevant to the accommodation sector.
Signs and Tickets
Signage at the Rock Car Park are still out of step with recent changes to the Councils ticketing policy. Sean said: “There are nineteen metal signs in the Bru Boru Car park telling you what not to do, but not one informing motorists that their parking tickets are valid in town. This issue must be addressed soon as we are losing potential customers in the business heart of the town. A simple sticker stuck on the parking machine which reads ‘This ticket is Valid in Town until Midnight Tonight’ is all that is needed.”
Town Council Meeting
The first Cashel meeting towards a Tipperary Town Forum will take place on June 13 with Council Staff and Kathleen Prendergast from the County Council along with representatives from Tidy Towns. It is hoped to have some funding in place to enhance the townscape. Chamber members are encouraged to come forward with ideas and suggestions that can be put to the this meeting.
Cloughjordan Green Business Showcase
A new network of Tipperary businesses that deal in the Green sector has been formed and the Chamber intends to have a stand at the Clough Jordan Green Showcase Exhibition on June 30. Any Cashel business that is currently using or selling Green technology, or offers a service that is environmentally friendly are asked to contact Sean on 06262685. “We want to present Cashel as a key green business hub , and we’ll offer part of our stand to offer product literature for companies in the Cashel area.”
Finally Sean wished everyone in the local Tidy Towns group success in the forthcoming competition. “This is the month when the efforts that Tidy Towns have put into Cashel over the past year are judged. Remember towns in the Top 100 get free marketing support from Board Failte and are more likely to appear in official and unofficial brochures. Best of luck to Paddy Downey and his team on the forthcoming judging.”
