Last Saturday morning saw the residents of Dominic Street in Cashel open their curtains to the sights and sounds of ‘Lights – Camera – ACTION…!’ The invasion of the green in front of Dominic’s Abbey was temporarily transformed in to a movie set.
Cashel man Jimmy O’Neill is shooting the Invasion Cashel movie.
Passing tourists, took time from their visit to the Rock and the town to take in the curious spectacle, photograph the proceedings and do a bit of Star-searching…
The film is set in modern day Cashel, with Dominic Street featuring as one of many locations throughout the town and as far a field as Fethard. Many of the actors and film crew are from County Tipperary.
Director, Mr. O’Neill has written a science fiction movie, in which Cashel is invaded by aliens seeking to colonise the planet. These malevolent and aggressive beings travel from planet to planet, through the solar system as forms of pure energy, to steal and inhabit the planets’ predominant species and pillage its resources before moving to the next planet. This time, it has become Plant Earth’s turn to be invaded…
Mr O’Neill is using the technological advances of recent years to do home-based computer graphics and imagery to create the special effects entailed by the movie. This has eliminated the need for big set locations and closed streets. Residents will soon see people running fearfully down Main Street, poor individuals trapped in Agar’s Lane. The final movie cut will treat movie goers to the Rock being destroyed with Cashel in ruins.
Will Cashel and the world come back fighting or is this Earth’s final chapter…?
Ardfinnan man and Tipperary International Film Festival Organiser, Will Nugent, is also the movie’s producer, with Niall Gregory, Tina Ryan, Fran O’Dwyer, Marion Whelan and Tony Sweeney working diligently behind the film scenes. Actors Karen O’Connor, Danny Bob O’Dwyer, Joan O’Brien, Liam and Niamh Browne, Paul and Alan Devitt, Grainne O’Donnell, Mairead Cunningham, Shannon Ryan, Mike Walsh, Liam Lankstead and Katie Lankstead are amongst a much larger cast. A lot of the scenes will feature other Tipperary residents as extras.
