The brilliance of Kevin Harney has often been acknowledged by teammates and opponents alike and having won his first county medal in 2012, Kevin’s ability and dedication has now been recognised by The United Sports Panel.
Kevin has been named the Annerville Footballer Of The Year and will receive his award in Hotel Minella on January 26. Kevin Harney is quite simply an outstanding Gaelic footballer whose ability is matched by his courage. This courage is clearly evident on the field as Kevin delivers tackle after tackle and gives his teammates a huge lift as they witness his bravery and absolute desire to win every ball he contests.
Off the field however is where Kevin Harney has probably displayed his most courageous display of all. Having undergone two cruciate ligament operations and when others doubted his ability to return to the game Kevin battled bravely, spending hours, weeks and months slogging on his own to get his knee strong enough to return to competitive action, As he stood beside his teammates on county final day recently few realised that among the players who had won county medals at various grades throughout their careers Kevin was going for his very first county medal at any level. His displays this year, particularly in the quarter final against Arravale Rovers where he was outstanding went a long way to securing the club’s 15th county title.
The club takes this opportunity to congratulate Kevin Harney on receiving The Annerville Award.
Santa Claus Pays A Visit: Santa Claus dropped into the children’s Christmas party on Sunday last at Colaiste Ceitin. A large crowd of boys and girls gathered and all had a wonderful afternoon as they played the games led by DJ Billy Bop. Santa arrived and handed selection boxes to all the kids. Well done to all who ran this event.
Bag Packing: The club’s annual bag packing at Tesco takes place this year from Saturday December 22 to Monday 24. We are appealing to all our members and all the parents of our juvenile boys and girls to give an hour or two over the course of the weekend to give a hand out on this vital fundraiser. It is very important that all our members help out in some way in this.
Club Yearbook: The last few copies of the year book are still available. This has sold very well and has been really well received. Copies are available at some shops in the town and from any committee member. But hurry there are not many left.
Club 7 aside: The draw takes place this week for the club 7 aside which takes place on December 29. For more details see the club website in the coming days.
