Healthy food was top of the menu at a family day in Cashel.
Co-ordinated by South Tipperary Development Company, the Healthy Foods for all the Family event was held in the Spafield Family Resource Centre.
It was part of the roll out of the SafeFood Community Food Initiative, (CFI) across the County.
The objective was to highlight and provide how healthy food can be made accessible, easy to prepare and at a low cost.
A practical demonstration on how to prepare safe and healthy food at the Spafield Family Resource Centre.
The core focus was to empower and enable those that attended to develop healthy eating patterns, food behaviours and broaden their understanding of various food groups and healthy food available to them locally.
On the day there were two food demonstrations and a number of professionals available to discuss and answer any questions/queries that arose in relation to their health and the health of their families.
In attendance was the South Tipperary Community Dietician, who spoke about the importance of food portions and sugar content in food.
The Dental Hygienist discussed how to prevent tooth decay and importance of good dental hygiene at an early age.
Tipperary County Childcare Committee were on hand to discuss all areas of the Early Years sector.
Tipperary ETB cookery tutor provided practical tips and demonstrations with the purpose of increasing healthy food in the diet of young children.
Tipperary Co. Council were in attendance to provide information on food recycling and food wastage and the local “Tesco” provided generous goodie bags and healthy treats for all.
