Sean Kelly Square looking towards the West Gate
Traffic diversions are in place and council staff have been called in after a building at Carrick on Suir’s historic West Gate partially collapsed this morning.
According to Cllr David Dunne the building on the Main Street side of the narrow road has partially collapsed into the street and the West Gate has been closed to most traffic as it remains in a dangerous condition. (See photograph below).
Car traffic has been diverted on to Bridge Street and the quays however larger vehicles and lorries are being allowed through the West Gate, as are pedestrians.
County Council staff went to the site this morning (Wednesday) and, says Cllr Dunne, they have made direct contact with the owner of the building with a view to making it safe.
