Carrick on Suir's historic West Gate made safe - road reopens

West Gate Carrick on Suir

The Westgate in Carrick-on-Suir town centre fully re-opened to traffic yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) after a building posing a health and safety concern to the local council was made safe by its owner.

The Westgate was closed to car traffic as a precaution yesterday morning after a section of plaster facade at the top of a building on the Main Street side collapsed onto the footpath and street below.

Car traffic was diverted to Bridge Street and onto the quays as the building was investigated and made safe.
