Tipperary festivals - funding available to support events around the county

Festivals around the county can apply for funding until deadline day on December 6.

Tipperary County Council is calling on organisers of festivals and events across the county to apply for financial support under a new funding scheme for 2018.

The Tipperary Festivals and Events Scheme 2018 has been designed as a one-stop-shop for festivals and events with a tourism, cultural, artistic, heritage, sporting or community focus to receive County Council funding in 2018.

Festival and event organisers previously funded through any section of Tipperary County Council will now need to apply under this scheme. This is the first time that funding for festivals and events will be decided on a county-wide basis through a single open call.

Closing date is Wednesday 6 December 2017 at 12 noon

The Tipperary Festivals and Events Strategy 2018-2020 which was adopted earlier this year recognises that “festivals and events are crucial to the fabric of life in County Tipperary – they entertain, celebrate our communities and showcase our villages and towns, delivering a wide range of cultural, social and economic benefits to the citizens of Tipperary and visitors to the county”.

Tipperary County Council supports approximately 75 festivals and events annually throughout the county. For 2018, we want to continue to offer funding opportunities to enable these and any new festivals and events to thrive.

The new funding scheme has three strands – Community, Municipal and Premier – each with specific criteria and targeting festivals and events of varying scales from smaller community events to large scale events with a national profile.

Events that can apply under the scheme include large-scale celebratory events such as St Patrick’s Day parades, regattas or race events, agricultural shows, arts and cultural festivals and local food festivals. The rule of thumb for events is that they should be festive, celebratory or commemorative, showcasing and highlighting the richness of the county.

With the deadline for the receipt of applications fast approaching, any festivals or events wishing to receive County Council funding in 2018, should visit the County Council website http://www.tipperarycoco.ie/arts/tipperary-festivals-and-events-grant-scheme-2018 to download a form and guidelines or email festivals@tipperarycoco.ie  with any queries.
