Breaking - Tipperary river may be contaminated following kerosene spill

River Anner near Mullinahone contaminated following kerosene spill.

Tipperary County Council is investigating a potentially significant spillage of kerosene to the River Anner downstream of Mullinahone, Co. Tipperary. 

The source of the contamination has been identified and contained. 

The Council is ensuring that the necessary clean-up measures are being put in place.  The Environmental Protection Agency, Irish Water and Inland Fisheries Ireland have also been notified of this incident. 

Initial investigations indicate that water in the River Anner downstream of Mullinahone may be contaminated by the kerosene spillage. 

Land-owners are advised that they should inspect the river where water is being abstracted for agricultural or other use and take any necessary precautions.
