Tipperary GAA mourns Ardfinnan club president and stalwart Tom O'Mahoney

The late Tom O'Mahoney.

The death has taken place of Ardfinnan GAA  club president, Tom O’Mahoney.

Tom was a lifelong player, supporter and administrator with his beloved Maroons but his passing will be mourned far and wide.

A thorough gentleman, he was hugely respected in GAA circles.

His first love was Ardfinnan but he had respect for players and clubs through the Premier County.

Time spent at a game was not just about watchng the action on the pitch but meeting up with old friends and acquaintances for a chat.

A trbute to Tom to the Ardfinnan GAA Club Facebook page says – Our Club is deeply saddened with the death of Club President Tom O’Mahoney.Tom always had a great love for the Maroon of the VILLAGE.

From his early days playing with the club going on to be part of Senior Championship winning teams. When he finished playing he took on the role of managing a lot of teams with some great success whilst all the time being an unbelievably active committee man including Club Chairman 1993-95.

Nothing gave Tom more pleasure than being at a GAA match chatting to everyone whilst keeping an eye on the game.

Tom was immensely proud watching his own children/grandchildren playing and was honored when his late son Thomas was chairman of his beloved club from 2006-2008.

Tom was a legend of our club and when people will talk about the great Gaels from Ardfinnan, Tom O’Mahoney will be one of those mentioned.

Personally Tom was a great neighbour to us all in St Finnan’s Ave and when we were younger he would bring us the length and breath of the country to GAA matches. There is going to be some GAA chat in heaven now.

Our deepest sympathies to his beloved wife Eily and family and friends. Rest In Peace Tom ..
