Tipperary Childcare Committee to host free 'Transition from Pre to Primary School' workshop for parents

Tipperary Childcare Committee will host a free 'Transition from Pre-School to Primary School' workshop for parents on Tuesday June 12 at the Horse & Jockey Hotel, Thurles.

Minister for Children and Youth Affairs Dr Katherine Zappone recently announced and welcomed a key new partnership’ between her department and the National Parents Council.

Minister Zappone said that “This new partnership with the National Parents Council, who for years have strongly advocated on behalf of parents at primary level, will provide a clear pathway for parents with children in pre-schools, crèches and with childminders to have their voices heard at the highest level. I feel it represents a significant, progressive step forward.”

Tipperary Childcare Committee is delighted to promote and support this new initiative and encourage all parents of pre-school children to attend the new  “transitions from pre-school to primary school” training session facilitated by the National Parents Council scheduled to take place at the Horse & Jockey Hotel on Tuesday 12th June 7.30pm – free of charge and no booking required.

The focus of the training session is to support parents, to support their children in making this very important transition from pre-school to primary school.

The National Parents Council will provide parents with information, examples and ideas which are designed to be helpful in supporting their children through everyday interactions.   They will also provide opportunities for parents to explore and reflect on their own thoughts and feelings around this transition.

The transition from pre-school to primary school can be one of the most important transitions that a child will make.

The success of this transition can benefit children all the way through primary school providing better outcomes for children socially, emotionally and educationally.

At the training parents will:

• Meet other parents whose children are starting primary school

• Explore the possible changes the parent and child may experience during this transition

• Learn how parents can support children at home through play and meaningful interactions

• Receive a brief overview of the primary school curriculum, how and what children will learn

• Support parents to prepare for new routines for both parent and child
