The Special Olympic torch visited Scoil Mhuire gan Small Primary School in New Inn last week as part of its nationwide tour ahead of the 2018 Special Olympics Ireland Games in Dublin.
The primary school had entered a nationwide fundraising competition and the students collected an impressive €550 for the Special Olympics by running a cake sale.
Garda Superintendent Carmel Banville, Tipperary Senior Camogie players Cait Devane and Orla O’Dwyer, representatives of Rockwell Rovers GAA Club, local politicians, students and teachers welcomed the Olympic torch to the school on Tuesday, June 12. It was carried by members of the Gardai and Special Olympics athletes.

Athletes from Scoil Aonghusa Cashel were in attendance with Team Munster equestrian athlete Dylan Reilly carrying the torch for the final leg of the run through the school grounds.
Niamh Luddy, a previous bronze medal winner from the Special Olympics basketball team, who is from New Inn/ Knockgraffon Parish also attended the ceremony.
