Tipperary Co. Council votes against proposal to maintain 10% Local Property Tax hike for another year

A majority of Tipperary Co. Council members have voted down a proposal to maintain for the next year the 10% increase in the Local Property Tax introduced by the Council last autumn.
The Council's elected members rejected the proposal to maintain the LPT 10% increase for 2019 by 21 votes to 15 at this morning's meeting of Tipperary Co. Council in Clonmel.

The vote was taken following a heated debate in the Council Chamber during which Co. Council CEO Joe MacGrath appealed to councillors to support maintaining the 10% LPT increase approved last year for a second year in order to maintain services ranging from public libraries and leisure centres to arts centre across the county at their current levels.

More details to follow on the debate.
