Co. Council grants planning permission for 40-bed extension to South Tipperary General Hospital

South TIpperary General Hospital

Tipperary Co. Council has granted conditional planning permission for the much needed 40 bed extension to South Tipperary General Hospital in Clonmel, which has suffered from chronic overcrowding in recent years.

The Council gave planning approval for the two-storey "modular unit" extension on September 5 with 14 conditions attached.

The Council's decision can be appealed to An Bord Pleanala up to four weeks after the Council's decision so the HSE must wait until after this deadline.  If no appeal is lodged, it can proceed to constructing the extension but the submission of an appeal will delay the project for months.

Clonmel Independent TD Seamus Healy, who is the Chairman of the Save Our Acute Hospital Services Committee, has welcomed the Council's decision.
