One of Tipperary Town's best known shops - Wellworth Stores - has closed down marking another major setback for the town's struggling retail sector.

Tipperary Town community activist Martin Quinn said the closure was a huge blow to the town which has already suffered many economic blows already.

"It's devastating to see the shops on the Main Street which are part of our history closing. Wellworths is a long established shop and I know one member of staff worked there for 30 years."

Mr Quinn said there is currently about 23 shops closed on the Tipperary Town's Main Street.
