Health Minister James Reilly must act now on South Tipperary General Hospital.
The Clonmel hospital, respected throughout the county and farther afield, is in the news recently for all the wrong reasons.
And that’s very unfair on the dedicated staff who are being put under such pressure.
They are working under conditions that are unacceptable.
In any working environment that would be wrong; in a hospital it’s dangerous.
The hospital is close to the top of the league for trolleys on corridors.
And that has a human impact as we report on this week concerning the family of a Carrick-on-Suir woman who was on a trolley in the hospital and died a day after she was discharged. The family ask would she have died had she been given a bed.
Independent TD Mattie McGrath is pressing for the filling of seven registrar posts that are vital to the efficient running of the hospital. The Minister gave him an encouraging response in the Dail but nothing has happened since. This is not an issue that can drag on. The staff and patients deserve more
