The Tidy towns Group were ably assisted by Seamus Shealy who is doing Trojan work on the Abbey Graveyard last Saturday and hopefully it will be more presentable after work completed this weekend.
We will continue with litter picking on Wednesday evenings and whenever needs be for those available during the day.
Now, back to our adjudicators report on Litter Control where they state that we have a constructed and comprehensive approach to this most vital issue. Once again your boost in volunteer numbers will be invaluable here. The combination of education, enforcement national spring clean and routine patrols is excellent. The steps down to the river from the lane near the post office were littered. The pathway towards the viaduct was also littered while items extended into the vegetation along the river bank. A small amount of litter had gathered near the wooden bridge into the Inch Field. The bring bank behind the tourist office was spotless.
Generally throughout the town litter control was to a very high standard so well done on this. Additional attention needs to be paid to back areas especially the river path. The chairman was disappointed with the marking section here where we gained no extra marks and we had removed any amount of rubbish from the areas mentioned but we hope to put it right next year .
This is where everybody can play a part. It’s all a habit to put your litter in the bin and it will wash off on others eventually.
We will hold a table quiz on November 25, in the Shamrock Lounge and it’s E20 per table of four. So why not plan to make an evening out of it.
