Around 50 new retail jobs are being created with the introduction of three new stores at the Showgrounds Shopping Centre, Clonmel this spring.

Leading multi-channel retailer Argos is set to open its 40th store in Ireland at the centre on March 5.

Showgrounds Shopping Centre Manager Julian Smith is delighted with the new addition to the scheme. "We are delighted that Argos is opening their new store in The Showgrounds. Argos chose The Showgrounds due to the Centre's success to date and because the location offered them the right mix of consumer accessibilty and retailer serviceabilty that was so important to this major retail brand" he said.

Agents for the scheme are Savills in Cork and Tom Pollard's in Clonmel. Savill's Director, Peter O'Meara, who negotiated the deal, states that 'Argos are a super addition to the Showgrounds Shopping centre anchored by Marks & Spencer and will add to the existing strong tenant mix and provide further drive to the footfall figures' Further details of the last remaining units are available from the agents.

In addition to Argos, leading fashion retailer The Edinburgh Woollen Mill is continuing its expansion into the Republic of Ireland with the announcement of its 6th store set to open at The Showgrounds around the same time – March 2011.

The Edinburgh Woollen Mill, renowned for their cashmere ranges, were established in 1946 and opened their first retail store in Scotland in 1972. Since then the Company has grown into a diverse retail group which includes over 192 mainstream High Street stores along with speciality tourist and destination outlets throughout the UK and Ireland.

The new 4,000 sq ft store in Clonmel will include high quality, great value fashion lines for both ladies and gents including leisurewear and golf ranges.

"We are delighted to be opening our 6th store in Clonmel and continuing our expansion into Ireland" says Steve Simpson of EWM. "We chose The Showgrounds as it is a very successful centre and has an excellent catchment in the South East. We are very happy to be creating a minimum of 10-15 jobs and look forward to introducing our brand and successful ranges to shoppers in the region" he added.

Julian Smith, commenting on this welcome new addition to the scheme added, "I am very familiar with the Edinburgh Woollen Mill from my experience of UK retail, especially their Outlet stores. This addition to the Centre will add greatly to the retail fashion offer here and will be the first of what we hope will be additional fashion stores opening during 2011" he said.

The privately owned Edinburgh Woollen Mill group has grown substantially over recent years and has continued to invest in acquistions, adding to its portfolio of brands and stores along the way. Group turnover in 2009/10 was in excess of 240m and the Company operates in excess of 500 stores in the UK & Ireland.

Enhancing that food offer at the Centre will be The Showgrounds third new addition this Spring – Luigi's Fresh Fish & Chips. Set to open shortly, Luigi's will be offering traditional fresh fish, fresh-cut chips and delicious kebabs and hamburgers. This will be their third outlet to open in Ireland with other branches located in Clare and Dublin. Luigi's Clonmel is expected to employ around 8 staff when it opens later this month.

The Showgrounds was the only Shopping Centre to open in the last 18 months in Ireland. "Despite the challenging economic climate the addition of Argos, Edinburgh Woollen Mills and Luigis, creating a further 50 jobs here at the Centre, is very encouraging. It shows that Clonmel remains attractive to major businesses and is contining to develop its retail offer throughout the town and especially here at the Centre" added Mr. Smith.
