Pressure is mounting for a task force to be set up following the loss of jobs in Cashel.
Members of Tipperary County Council have called for immediate action following the recent closure of the Cashel Palace Hotel and job losses in other areas.
Fianna Fail councillor Roger Kennedy told a meeting that “hundreds of jobs” had been lost in Cashel, with the recent closure of the Cashel Palace Hotel, the Tax Office/Council Chamber, and other local shops.
He called on CEO Joe McGrath to appoint a jobs task force. “There are quite a number of vacant units and to rub salt in the wound, J&J pharmaceutical recently announced 100 jobs for Limerick that had been initially earmarked for Cashel”, he claimed “It’s an emergency, some traders are only holding on hoping something better will come along.”
