This is the inaugural year of the competition organised by Cork Airport, which saw over 1,000 entries received from primary schools around Munster.

Each of the winning artists attended the awards ceremony with category winners sharing in €2,000 worth of arts and crafts supplies and vouchers for their schools.

Entries were submitted under four categories; Junior and Senior Infants, First to Third class, Fourth to Sixth class and Special Needs with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place prize winners in each category.

Speaking about the competition Niall MacCarthy, Airport Director, Cork Airport said, ‘We are delighted to be able to sponsor this inaugural schools art competition, reaching out to budding artists throughout the Munster region to celebrate their talent. We have been amazed by the enthusiasm of the children involved and the quality of the entries received.’

The hugely successful competition ran from 20th May to the 28th June 2013 and was open to all primary school children in the Munster area. The theme of this year’s competition was ‘What Cork Airport means to me’ with children invited to create their own artwork under the theme.
