A heartbroken community has rallied around to support the family of Cathriona White, the beautiful young woman from Cappawhite who died in her adopted LA home last week.
Cathriona, who moved to the entertainment capital of the world to pursue her dreams of being a makeup artists and actress, was found in her home there last week. The cause of death is still under investigation by the Los Angeles coroner but they released a statement saying they were treating the tragic death as a suicide.
From a well known and highly respected Cappawhite family, Cathriona trained in beauty therapy and hair dressing in Ireland before setting out on her American adventure. There she found success in her chosen career - according to the Internet Movie Database, a popular online record of the movie and tv industry, she worked as a hair stylist, make up artist and special effects make up artist on several productions including the cult sci-fi show Firefly.
Cathriona was proud Tipperary native, who continued her support of the hurling team from America, posting to her social media accounts photos of herself wearing her Tipp GAA jersey and watching championship games online via the GAA Go site. For a time she even played ladies football with the local team when she lived in Newcastle, where she was described as very popular and a lovely girl. Cathriona attended the Convent of Mercy in Doon before going on to study beauty and complementary therapies at the Limerick College of Further Education, and finding work in Ireland.
Following her tragic death her Tipperary family released a statement expressing their heartbreak at the loss of a beloved daughter and sister. “Cathriona was a shining light in our lives who was loved deeply by her entire family. We will miss her terribly.”
It was through her work in the movie industry that Cathriona met actor Jim Carey, with whom she had a romantic relationship and which made her a familiar face on entertainment websites and magazines. He said he was deeply saddened by her death. “She was a truly kind and delicate Irish flower, too sensitive for this soil, to whom loving and being loved was all that sparkled. My heart goes out to her family and friends and to everyone who loved and cared about her. We have all been hit with a lightning bolt.”
Cathriona passed away on September 28, at her home in Sherman Oaks, California. Her family will bring her home to Cappawhite where her funeral is expected to take place. Funeral arrangements are not yet known.
Cathriona is survived by her mother Brigid, stepmother Bríd, and siblings Lisa, James, Larina, Sarah and Tadhg, in-laws, nieces and nephews.
