A new working group to oppose the introduction of water charges has been formed in Clonmel.
Right2Water in Clonmel was formed at a meeting in Hearns Hotel following the most recent protest march in Dublin’s city centre.
Cllr. Catherine Carey of Sinn Féin has said she is delighted to see that the movement is as strong as ever.
“These good people are willing to give their time to stand for what they believe in. That’s democracy in action and I welcome it”, she said.
“Environment Minister Alan Kelly has been trying to play down the success of the most recent march in Dublin but it is clear that the opposition to the hated water tax is as strong as ever. Well over 50,000 people, many of them from Tipperary stood and voiced their objections on Dublin’s O’Connell Street.
This committee will continue to help organise the protest in Clonmel. The members are all well-known to ordinary Clonmel people from being at the forefront of the campaign so far.
Alan Kelly is sorely mistaken if he thinks this is over”.
