Ballymac Scouts take the National Challenge

Ballymacarbry Cub Scouts

Ballymacarbry Cub Scout Pack have achieved Gold Standard at the National Cub Scout Challenge!

Two teams from Ballymacarbry Cub Scout Pack participated in the National Cub Scout Challenge in Kilcully Campsite in Cork over the weekend of 16/17 June.

40 Cub Scout teams (9,10 and 11 year olds) from across the island of Ireland were tested in their skills in campcraft, backwoods, orienteering, first aid and navigation.

The two Ballymacarbry teams, Badger and Fox, had come 1st and 2nd in the Scout County Competition earlier in the year in order to qualify for the National event.

The Badger team, led by Rachel Moore, who had won the county event achieved Silver standard in the National Challenge and the Fox team, led by Bronagh Walsh, who had come second in the county event had the wonderful achievement of reaching Gold Standard, a feat matched by only five other teams in the country.

Cub Section Leader Niamh Nugent was extremely proud of both Ballymacarbry teams: “The cubs have been working and training hard since January for both the County and National event, we couldn’t be more proud of the journey they made and what they have achieved. All 12 cubs who participated are a credit to their Scout Group and their community.”
