Ballyneale Football Club wishes to extend its sincerest sympathies to the O’Reilly family and extended families on the recent death of their son and brother Marty.
Marty played with Ballyneale F.C for eight seasons in all, and continued to do so right up until his untimely passing. His quiet unassuming demeanour would transform to a real competitive style when on the pitch, and the tougher the battle the more he seemed to like it. His team mates held his contribution in high regard, even if he did sometimes turn up with two different colours socks.
This respect was demonstrated by his peers who voted him club captain for the 2016/2017 season, a position he was rightly proud of. Only in recent weeks Marty had to receive stitches to a head wound he received during a game, further evidence of his bravery and commitment to the cause. Thankfully he was able to assure us of his wellbeing with a picture of himself bandaged up.
The picture captioned “at least we are winning” on social media, Marty always had the club and his friends’ interest at heart.
The clubs player, managers, supporters and committee send warm, wishes to Marty’s family at this difficult period. All that we can offer is that Marty will always be fondly remembered by all associated with the club, for his commitment to others, and for his dry wit which lifted the mood on many occasions over the years.
So it’s a forlorn goodbye for now from all your friends in Ballyneale F.C.
Marty, you have left big boots to fill, see ya “mate”
