Golf for Africa
Despite the weather we had a very good turnout for our “Golf for Africa” competition over the bank holiday weekend. We will have all the results for next week’s report.
This year the funds raised will go to the Presentation Sisters in Fethard for their Mission School in Zimbabwe. All prizes for the competition and the raffle were donated by our members and friends.
If you were unable to play or you weren’t around at the weekend, you can still support this very worthy cause by buying a line in the raffle which we have extended until Sunday next, 3rd November. There are plenty of great prizes to be won in the raffle. Lines are €3 each or two for a €5.
Mary Kenrick, Phil Whyte and Breda Foley were the winners of the Champagne scramble which was held recently with a fine score of 78pts.
The weather was the winner on Tuesday 22nd. The senior alliance which was due to be held on Tuesday last had to be cancelled and will be held at a later date.
Our Christmas Hamper Competition started onTuesday 29th October. It is a 12 hole competition with three categories with the three best cards to count.
Tom Leen (12) was the winner of the weekly singles with a score of 41 points. Noel Casey (19) finished second with 35 points the same score as third placed Liam Sheehy (21). Seamus O’Connor (6) was the gross winner.
The Junior coaching is on Saturdays at 1.00pm. All juniors are welcome to attend and the coaching is by our professional Suzie O’Brien. New members are always welcome.
The team of Billy Phelan, Ml McCormack, John O’Driscoll & Tadgh Brown were the winners of last Wednesdays scramble competition with 59.5 net. Brian McNally, Sean O’Dea & Michael Hogan were second with 59.6 net. The team of John McMenamin, Barry Fuller & Frank Lonergan finished third. Please note that the seniors meet every Wednesday morning with a draw for partners at 9.30am and the competition starts at 10.00am sharp. All members over 55 and their friends are welcome. The Seniors are going extremely well and we would always welcome new members to join us. Our last outing of the year will take place in early November. The course and date to be decided.
The Fairways Restaurant at Slievenamon Golf Club is open for group bookings; menus and prices can be tailored to suit your needs. We cater for all occasions such as Birthdays, Parties, Funerals, Conferences and Weddings etc.

Jonathan storms home
Last weekend we held a Club Singles and the winner in the stormy conditions was Jonathan Ryan with 35Pts.
Congratulations to Arthur Ryan and Jack Kelly who defeated Willie Hartnett and Alan Dunphy last Sunday in the final of the Doubles Matchplay.
Members are reminded that our annual Club Classic is taking place on Sunday November 3rd and as ever, entry is free to all our full members with teams of 3 in a Champagne Scramble format. Members need to get their names into the pro shop by 6pm on Thursday 31st October as there will be a draw done for partners within the half hour of your preferred time. Teams will be posted on Friday and the presentation will take place in mid December.
The Christmas Hampers will start on the week of November 4th with more details to follow next week.
Timesheet is now open for members and guests for Senior Singles on Monday and Open Singles on Wednesday.
The winner of Tuesday’s competition, October 15th was Elaine Bermingham with 37pts.
The first round of our Winter League took place on Sunday, October 20th.
Leading at present are Team C, Jane Cowhey, Ursula Madden and Esther Fearnley with 32pts.
Round two will take place on Sunday, November 24th.

Despite some extremely difficult weather conditions our Hamper weekend saw some outstanding scoring. Pressure of office didn’t deter either of the first three home with Handicap Secretary, John Paul Meehan, Games Secretary, Patrick Ryan G and Vice-Capain, John J.M. O’Dwyer taking the spoils with 45 pts, 45pts and 44pts respectively with Joe B Ryan unlucky to lose out also on 44pts.

Hard luck to our gallant Belvedere Cup team who went down by the odd match in 5 to Dungarvan in Friday’s semi-final at Cahir Park.
With the clocks gone back those hardy card-playing souls will once again invade the Clubhouse on this Saturday night when another season of merriment will surely shorten the winter.

Ladies Day - Great crowd
Unfortunately our weather hasn’t been as good as previous weeks, nevertheless a great crowd turned out for Ladies Day at Cahir Park Golf Club.
Well done to all the prize winners on the day and to Bridget Walsh who had an eagle on the second hole.
Kay English is Ladies ‘Golfer of the Year’
Also on the day a presentation was made to Kay English by Lady Captain Eileen Ryan for ‘Golfer Of The Year’. The silver medal went to Bridget Walsh while the bronze went to Millie Webb. Bridget Walsh also claimed the ‘Silver Spoon’. Congratulations ladies on your participation in the weekly competitions throughout the year and well played.
