Three members of Cashel Boxing Club represented the club at the annual Waterford/Tipperary County Board Show in Saviours Crystal Boxing Club in Waterford city, on December 9.
Linda Donoghue was first up for the club in the Girl2 (40kg) group and although expectations were high after her last two wins, she did not disappoint. She won the first round against her opponent Zara Breslin of Tramore Boxing Club by two points. She then went on to increase her lead by a further two points in the second round and after a third excellent round she won the bout by 12 points to 5.
Cashel Boxing Club’s southpaw Thomas O’Reilly was up next against Luke Hurley of Clonmel in the Boy1 (36kg) category, in his second ever boxing match. Thomas started strong in the first round but his opponent proved an accomplished boxer and won the subsequent two rounds.
Third up for Cashel Boxing Club was Michael Hutchinson in the Boy 2 (36kg) category against Jordan Halpin of St Pauls BC. Michael also started strong and was up by one point after the first round. While it looked like the win could have gone to either boxer, the St Pauls boxer won by just two points. This was a very good result as it was Michaels first ever time in the ring. The club seconds (corner man/woman) David Higgins and Petra Elftorp, were very happy with all three boxers’ performance.
Cashel Boxing Club is taking a break for Christmas from Friday, December 21, and training will commence again on Tuesday, January 8!
The club would like to wish its members and all of you who have supported the club and shown an interest in any way throughout the year, a Wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year!
