The County Juvenile B Cross Country Championships took place in ideal conditions last Sunday at the Turnpike.
Clonmel AC saw some very good performances and it augurs well for the future to see these young athletes run so well. It was also great to see so many parents travel to support these fine performances.
In the Girls under 9 Lauryn O’Flynn set the scene for the day when putting in a brilliant run to finish 5th and in the process win a top ten medal. This performance was a great inspiration to the rest of the Club athletes. In the Boys under 9 Mark Corcoran ran a brilliant race when finishing strongly over the closing stages to win the Silver medal and this performance also inspired the rest of his team mates and they all put in great efforts over the closing stages with Adam Tobin Purcell 11th, Gerald Nugent 13th, Ciaran Proven 15th and Ewan Hannigan 18th.
This squad combined very well to win the silver medals. In the Girls under 13 Robyn O’Flynn inspired by her sister’s great performance earlier in the day, pulled out a brilliant performance when winning the silver medal and then we had brilliant performances from Caoimhe Walsh who ran very well when finishing 4th, her best performance so far this year, Isobel Hurley 15th and Rachel Lauhoff 17th and the combined efforts of this quartet saw them win the silver medals.
In the Boys under 11 Carlos Grace ran a brilliant race - in the early stages he was well positioned, watching every move and then he made his move when increasing the pace that saw him going into a lead he never relinquished as he came home a very worthy winner. Then we also had great efforts form both Charlie Barlow 5th and John John Carolan 13th and these three athletes combined very well to win the Silver medals.
In the Girls under 13 we had Hannah Berry also producing her best effort this year when winning the Bronze medal, with Chloe Conway also producing her best run this year when finishing 4th while Lauren Hurley should be delighted with her fine performance when finishing 11th. This trio of athletes ran very well to win the inter club silver medals.
