Cashel 10 Thurles 7
The Cashel under 17s stood up to the mark on Sunday last in Fethard and delivered the first silverware of the season to the Club in the form of the East Munster Development League Shield.
With high winds dictating the game plans of both sides this was a tough fought match.
The winning of the match was in the structure that was kept, especially in the defensive lines when they were up in the oppositions 22. Cashel kept their shape and made their tackles and were rewarded by two well taken tries by James O’Halloran and Eoin Hand.
There was a nailbiting finish to the game as Thurles were within 3 points of Cashel for most of the second half and the Cashel captain William Purcell acknowledged the quality of their opponents in his well delivered speech after the final whistle.
From one to fifteen on the day, could not be faulted in their workmanlike approach to the task and credit is due to all. Well done also to the Mentors for putting together such a good outfit. Thomas Moran departs the coaching scene after many years to concentrate on his other great passion beekeeping.
Bective Rangers 14 Cashel 17
Cashel ended their year with a win over Bective on Saturday last in Dublin. With tries from Pat O’Connor and Ed Leamy in the second half this was a decent win as they started the second half with a 14 point deficit to the Dublin side.
The win sees Cashel finish in the top half of the Ulster Bank Division 2A League table.
