Rosegreen Rangers 0 Castlebar Celtic 4
South Tipperay Second Division minnows Rosegreen Rangers put up a battling performance against the might of Mayo League kingpins Castlebar Celtic in the last 64 of the FAI Junior Cup in Rosegreen.
The final score was not a true reflection of this tie and only for a more clinical Castlebar Celtic side that took their chances the outcome might have been different.
Rosegreen Rangers looked overawed by the occasion in the early stages. Castlebar capitalised on a mix-up in the Rangers defence to open the scoring after 14 minutes. With Rosegreen settling and creating a number of half chances, they kept their more illustrious opponents lead to a minimum at the halfway stage.
Castlebar doubled their lead on 47 minutes when a speculative long range effort from Peter Drawins proved unstoppable. With Rosegreen forced to throw caution to the wind they were always going to be caught on the break. Castlebar won a penalty for handball on 67 minutes, that was scored by Ronan O’Boyle. O’Boyle added the fourth goal with seven minutes remaining for a very flattering victory.
