Over 5,400 worth of meals have been collected by Tesco stores in Co. Tipperary, supported by the Lions Club.
The appeal was one of the biggest of its kind in Tipperary this year, with all food collected being distributed locally. Tesco topped-up the local Tipperary donations by 30%.
Clair O’Donnell, store manager Tesco Extra Clonmel, said: “We have been overwhelmed by the generosity, goodwill and charitable spirit shown by the people of Tipperary, not to mention the huge efforts made by all the Tesco staff and Lions Club volunteers involved in making this appeal the success it has been. My sincerest thanks to everyone for their support.”
Liam Lyons, district governor of Lions Clubs in Ireland described the public response as most generous in extremely difficult times.
“We have always enjoyed the support of shoppers at this time of the year and we are delighted that our joint project with Tesco proved to be such an outstanding success.” He also thanked the thousands of Lions and other volunteers who participated in the Food Appeal.
“Every grocery item and every cent we collect will go to people in need this Christmas,” he said.
