Multi-instrumentalist Stompin’ Dave Allen plays the New Music Club at Moran’s Bar tonight (Thursday, June 11).
Performing American roots, including old-time, bluegrass, blues, vintage country music including traditional songs and tunes, originals and covers, this is one show you won’t want to miss.
Dorset-based Dave sings, plays guitar, five-string banjo, fiddle, piano, harmonica and flatfoot dances and has performed at festivals across the UK and beyond including Glastonbury, London Remix, the Tolpuddle Martyrs Festival, Maverick, Ealing Blues Festival, Southsea Folk & Roots Festival, and the Great Dorset Steam Fair to name a few. He has produced a total of 16 CDs as Stompin Dave Allen since 2006.
Winner the FOAOTMAD (Friends of American, Old Time, Music and Dance) old-time banjo competition 2013 and 2011, runner-up in FOAOTMAD old-time dancing competition 2012, Dave has also competed in the US national bluegrass banjo, and international flatpicking guitar contests.
In 2011 Dave obtained a rave review from Charles Spencer in the Daily Telegraph whos said: “Stompin’ Dave is a master of all kinds of American roots music ranging from bluegrass to blues guitar, with a nice line in self-deprecating patter between numbers. He’s partial to showbiz gimmicks, juggling with his banjo and playing his guitar behind his head like Hendrix, but there is great sincerity and feeling in his performance, too.” The review concluded with a description of Stompin’ Dave as “a formidable musician and a true original.”
