Tipperary’s footballers put up a spirited performance before losing to All-Ireland finalists Kerry in the Munster Senior Football Quarter-Final at Semple Stadium on Sunday.

Tipp started brightly and led by 0-3 to 0-1 before Kerry took a grip on the game to lead at half time by 0-9 to 0-6.

However two points from Alan Maloney and another from Hugh Coghlan, when his piledriver was tipped over the bar by Kerry goalie Brendan Kealy, left just a point between them 9 minutes into the second half.

With Peter Acheson outstanding and Paddy Codd, Brian Fox and Hugh Coghlan all working overtime Tipp pushed their more illustrious opponents all the way, although Kerry held on to book a semi-final place against Cork.

Tipp will be in action again in the All-Ireland qualifiers on June 30.
